April 6, 2014
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Indiana men's golf team posted a final round team score of 294 on their way to a tournament total score of 879 and an eighth place finish at the Irish Creek Collegiate. Sophomore Max Kollin and freshman Will Seger both finished in the top 25 individually.
"I thought we got better each round," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "The conditions today were much more difficult but we were able to pass some teams and improve. We struggled with our putting at times but overall I liked how we continued to improve and work through it."
Kollin opened his final round with a pair of birdies on his first nine holes but found some difficulty on the back nine and finished with a round of 3-over par 74. His total score for the tournament was 7-over par 220.
Seger was never able to get into a groove in his final round but battled to a 5-over par 76, giving him a total score of 220 as well for the tournament and a T25 finish.
The best round of the day came from senior David Mills, who had four birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey en route to an even-par 71. He finished in 29th place individually with a score of 221.
Nicholas Grubnich had an up and down final round, registering six birdies and six bogeys in addition to one triple bogey, as he posted a 3-over par round of 74. His score of 224 for the tournament put him in a tie for 41st individually.
After a tough first round on Saturday, Andrew Fogg had two solid rounds, capped off by a 3-over par 75 on Sunday, giving him a total score of 228 and a tie for 65.
Indiana will host the NYX Hoosier Invitational next weekend (April 12-13) at the IU Golf Course in Bloomington.
