BlOOMINGTON, Ind. - Under some difficult scoring conditions, the Indiana men's golf team closed with a team score of 1-over par 285 on Sunday to run away with a 12 shot victory at the NYX Hoosier Invitational. It is the second consecutive victory for the Hoosiers at the tournament, which was held at the IU Golf Course, and the 11th straight season that head coach Mike Mayer has registered at least one tournament win.

"Getting this win was definitely a point of emphasis," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "We wanted this one badly. It is very gratifying and our guys did a great job, up and down the lineup. It was a great team effort for us."

The victory is also the 25th for Mayer in his 16th season as Indiana head coach. Indiana has hosted this tournament in the spring each of the last seven seasons and have won the team title in five of those.

Indiana saw four of the five players on the team finish inside the top 10 individually and all five inside the top 20.

Individually, senior David Mills carded a final round 71 to finish the tournament at 2-under par, which was good for second place. For his career, it is Mills' eighth top 5 finish and second this season (T4 at Northern Intercollegiate).

Freshman Will Seger came in with a 71 in his final round to post a tie for third finish individually, his best finish of the season. Junior Nicholas Grubnich completed his tournament with a 72 in the final round to finish tied for fifth individually; the second top 5 finish of his career, with the other coming during his freshman season.

The fourth score that counted for the Hoosiers on Sunday was a Even par 71 from sophomore Max Kollin on his way to a tie for ninth place. It was also Kollin's first career top 10 finish.

Junior Andrew Fogg played well in his final round with a 2-over par 73, leaving him in a tie for 19th place on the individual list. It is his best finish since claiming the individual title last year at this event.

Competing as individuals for the Hoosiers were senior Hugo Menendez, Andrew Havill and Keegan Vea. Menendez tied for 14th with a total score of 217 after his final round 75. Havill came in tied for 43rd while Vea was tied for 55th.

Indiana will close the regular season next weekend at the Boilermaker invitational hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
