Hoosiers Finish Fourth at Crooked Stick Invitational

CARMEL, Ind. - Alex Martin and David Erdy saved their best for last, each shooting their lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday to lead the Hoosier Men's Golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Crooked Stick Invitational.
Indiana completed the competition at 33-over par (304-290-291=885), just one stroke shy of the top three.
Martin's final round, 2-under 69 tied for the second lowest score in the entire event. The senior captain from Middletown, Ohio improved each round, shooting subsequent rounds of 75, 71 and 69. His three-round total of 215 was 2-over par and earned him a fifth-place finish on the individual scoreboard.
Martin and Erdy remain tied for the team lead in top-10 finishes, each increasing their season total to four. Erdy lowered his score each round just as Martin did, using his final round 72 to earn a share of ninth place.
Erdy's classmate Chase Wright rebounded from an opening-round 79 and posted scores of 72 and 73 in his final two trips around the course. For the tournament, Wright shot 11-over and tied for 20th place in the 63-player field.
Freshman John Beringer rounded out the Hoosier line-up at Crooked Stick. He carded rounds of 80, 81 and 81.
The Hoosiers are back at it five days, heading to West Lafayette to participate in the Boilermaker Invitational from Apr. 24-25. Check back right here at IUHoosiers.com later in the week for complete information on live scoring and other tournament details.

Senior captain Alex Martin led the way for the Cream and Crimson through the first 36 holes, shooting rounds of 75 and 71. His 146 total is 4-over par and gives him a share of 10th place on the individual scoreboard.
Sophomore David Erdy was Indiana's top scorer in round one and second best overall. The Boonville, Ind., native fired rounds of 74 and 73, sitting at plus-5 and in a tie for 14th place.
Freshman Brant Peaper also cracked the top-20 with his two-round total of 150 (76-74). Meanwhile, sophomore Chase Wright elevated himself ten slots on the leaderboard after posting a 72 on his second trip around the course. For the tournament, Wright is 9-over and tied for 24th place.
Freshman John Beringer rounded out the Hoosier line-up, recording scores of 80 and 81.
Indiana enters the final round just two strokes back from the top-3 and the Purdue Boilermakers. Beringer will be the first Hoosier to tee off on Tuesday, doing so at 9 a.m. off hole one. He will be followed by Wright, Peaper, Erdy and Martin in succession every 10 minutes. Complete tee times are posted above.
