UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Indiana remains in contention for a Big Ten title after Day One at the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship. With 36 of 72 holes played, the Hoosiers are two strokes back from the lead and in a tie for third place.

"We got off to a solid start, especially at the beginning of the second round," said Head Coach Mike Mayer. "We struggled a little bit coming in, made a few mistakes, but we are just two shots off the lead with a lot of golf to be played."

The Hoosiers led for much of the second round before Ohio State and Illinois snuck by at the end. The Buckeyes lead at 11-over with Illinois at 12-over, followed by Indiana and Minnesota at plus-13.

"Tomorrow is a big day for us," said Coach Mayer. "We need to really get at it tomorrow. If we play well, we can make a statement."

Indiana's Jorge Campillo, winner of the '08 Big Ten individual title, sits in the top-five at the halfway point of his title defense. He carded rounds of 69 and 73 on Friday for an even-par total of 142, good for a share of fifth place.

Chase Wright and Alex Martin each contributed two scores to the team tally on Day One. Wright is tied for 20th individually after posting scores of 74 and 73. Meanwhile, Martin started the event with an opening-round 72, followed by a 77 in the second go-around.

David Erdy is even with Martin for the tournament, each sharing a piece of 30th place with two-round totals of 149. Erdy began his day with an even-par 71 before his 78 in round number two.

Drew Allenspach rebounded from his struggles in the first round to record Indiana's best score in the second round. The Sugarland, Texas native shot even par (72) to help keep the Cream and Crimson in the running for the team title.
