May 2, 2009
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - With three rounds in the books and one to go at the Big Ten Men's Golf Championship, the Hoosiers are in seventh place as a team and Jorge Campillo is slotted sixth on the individual scoreboard.
On Saturday, Junior Alex Martin shot the best round for IU with his even-par 71. For the tournament, Martin is tied for 16th individually with a three-round total of 220.
Campillo, the defending individual champion, will have to make up six strokes on Sunday to snag his second straight Big Ten title. The Ben Hogan Award Semifinalist followed an opening-round 69 with back-to-back 73s. His 215 total score places him in sixth heading into the final round.
Chase Wright has continued his recent streak of extreme consistency. The Muncie, Ind., native has contributed a score to the team total in each round with rounds of 74, 73 and 75. In the two previous events, Wright posted the same score in each of his three rounds. At the adidas Hoosier Invitational he fired three consecutive 70s to finish third before covering his scorecard with three identical 75s the following weekend at the Boilermaker Invitational.
Fellow freshman David Erdy also came into the clubhouse with a four-over 75 on Saturday. For the tournament, Erdy shares a piece of 37th place at plus-11.
