COLUMBUS, Ohio - After 36 holes at the 2008 NCAA Central Regional, the Indiana men's golf team shares 10th place following a second-round 297 on Friday. Coupled with its 300 on Thursday, IU is tied with Kent State at 597 in the 27-team field at Ohio State's Scarlet Course (par 71; 7,455 yards).

The Hoosiers, who entered the regional as the No. 8 seed, are on the brink of advancing to the NCAA Finals for the first time since 1996. At each of three national regionals, the top 10 teams earn spots in the finals, which will be held in West Lafayette, Ind., on May 28-31.

Wake Forest (290-287) extended its first-place lead over Alabama (292-295) to 10 strokes and sits at 9-over-par 577. Illinois (298-292) and Penn State (304-286) share third place at 590.

Jorge Campillo remains in the top 10 in the 141-player field after posting a 2-over 73 in round two. The Big Ten Golfer of the Year sits in a three-way tie for fifth place at 2-over-par 144 (71-73) for the regional. In search of his fourth consecutive victory, the junior needs to catch Oklahoma State's Kevin Tway, who is at 3-under-par 139 (70-69) through two rounds.

Campillo birdied three of the first six holes and bounced back from a rough stretch with a birdie on his 16th hole to collect his 2-over. The Big Ten champion recorded four birdies and six bogeys in his round.

Seth Brandon led the Hoosiers in round two with an eventful 1-over 72. The junior, who started on No. 10, collected only two pars on his first nine holes and produced four birdies, one bogey and two double bogeys en route to a 1-over 36.

Brandon's backside didn't provide as much drama, as the Dalton, Ga., product birdied twice to go along with two bogies for an even-par 35. Coupled with his opening-round 77, Brandon is tied for 37th place at 149.

Making his first postseason appearance, sophomore Alex Martin added a solid 74 on the second 18. With his 76 on day one, the Middletown, Ohio, native shares 50th place with an 8-over-par total of 150.

After playing 2-over through his first seven holes, Martin ran off seven straight pars before a birdie at the par-5 sixth. However, he would bogey the next two holes to finish at 3-over.

Junior Drew Allenspach holds a two-day total of 157 (79-78) and is tied for 115th place, while true freshman Ren Han finds himself in 131st place at 161 (76-85).

The regional concludes with the third and final round on Saturday. Indiana will tee off at 8:05 a.m. EDT from the No. 10 tee. Visit www.golfstat.com to follow all the action live.
