First Round In the Books at NCAA Fayetteville Regional
May 16, 2013
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Indiana men's golf team completed the first round of the 2013 NCAA Fayetteville Regional with a team score of 19-over par 307 to sit in 13th place overall. Seniors Brant Peaper and Corey Ziedonis both carded 2-over par 74's in their first round, which is good for a tie for 25th individually.
"We didn't play how we are capable of playing out there today," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said following the round. "We know that's not how we can play and will go out there tomorrow and know what we have to do to get things turned around."
The Hoosiers started their rounds on No. 10 and Peaper began with back-to-back pars before a double bogey on the 12th hole got him off track. But he was able to rebound with a birdie on hole No. 16 and was one over after his first nine holes. Then bogeys on No. 1 and No. 5 had him at 3-over par for the day but he found another birdie at No. 7 to finish his round of 74.
Ziedonis also carded a double bogey on hole No. 12 and followed it with a bogey and double bogey over the next two holes, putting him five over par after his first five holes. But a birdie on No. 16 righted the ship as he recorded pars on the next six holes. After a bogey on hole No. 5, he posted birdies on three of his final four holes to take some momentum into the next round.
David Mills' round saw four bogeys and one birdie and 13 pars on his round as he fired a 3-over par 75 to tie for 39th place individually.
The Hoosiers will tee off at 9:40 a.m. CT on Friday for round two. The third round will be played on Saturday with the top five teams and top two individuals (not associated with an advancing team) qualifying for the NCAA Finals.
