MINNEAPOLIS - The Indiana men's golf team tied for fourth place in the 12-team Gopher Invitational hosted by Spring Hill Golf Club (7,020 yards; par 72) after shooting a final-round 299 Sunday afternoon. Indiana shared fourth with Notre Dame at 891, just one shot behind Arkansas and No. 36 Wisconsin. Third-ranked Lamar won the tournament by 22 strokes at 868.

Facing another challenging field, IU finished ahead of No. 31 Michigan State and No. 32 Minnesota thanks in large part to the play of junior Drew Allenspach and sophomore Alex Martin.

Allenspach, who received his first action of the season, showed some rust in the opening round with a 77. However, he bounced back with a 72 on the second 18 and carded a 73 this afternoon to finish in a tie for 16th place at 222.

Martin joined his teammate in 16th place and matched him with a final round 1-over-par 73. Following rounds of 74 and 75 on the opening day of the event, Martin collected his second straight top-25 finish and the fifth top 25 of his young career.

Junior Jorge Campillo was the third Hoosier to claim a share of 16th place. Campillo struggled to a 79 on the final 18. The Caceres, Spain, native jumped out of the gates and shared fifth place through day one with an opening-round 72 and second-round 71.

Fifth-year senior Tad Sacheck again showed the resiliency he has displayed his entire career. In just the fourth tournament of his career, the Zionsville, Ind., native shot a 2-over-par 74 to move into a tie for 50th place at 235 (84-77-74).

Rounding out the lineup, junior Seth Brandon struggled with an 80 on Sunday to close in a tie for 40th. Brandon wrapped up the tournament at 232 (74-78-80).

Up next, the Hoosiers host the first of three tournaments this season. IU welcomes 14 teams to the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Course in Zionsville, Ind., on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 22-23.
