Indiana Claws Way to Fourth at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - The Indiana men's golf team tied for fourth place in the 12-team Gopher Invitational hosted by Spring Hill Golf Club (7,020 yards; par 72) after shooting a final-round 299 Sunday afternoon. Indiana shared fourth with Notre Dame at 891, just one shot behind Arkansas and No. 36 Wisconsin. Third-ranked Lamar won the tournament by 22 strokes at 868.
Allenspach, who received his first action of the season, showed some rust in the opening round with a 77. However, he bounced back with a 72 on the second 18 and carded a 73 this afternoon to finish in a tie for 16th place at 222.
Martin joined his teammate in 16th place and matched him with a final round 1-over-par 73. Following rounds of 74 and 75 on the opening day of the event, Martin collected his second straight top-25 finish and the fifth top 25 of his young career.
Junior Jorge Campillo was the third Hoosier to claim a share of 16th place. Campillo struggled to a 79 on the final 18. The Caceres, Spain, native jumped out of the gates and shared fifth place through day one with an opening-round 72 and second-round 71.
Fifth-year senior Tad Sacheck again showed the resiliency he has displayed his entire career. In just the fourth tournament of his career, the Zionsville, Ind., native shot a 2-over-par 74 to move into a tie for 50th place at 235 (84-77-74).
Rounding out the lineup, junior Seth Brandon struggled with an 80 on Sunday to close in a tie for 40th. Brandon wrapped up the tournament at 232 (74-78-80).
Up next, the Hoosiers host the first of three tournaments this season. IU welcomes 14 teams to the Wolf Run Intercollegiate at Wolf Run Golf Course in Zionsville, Ind., on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 22-23.
