Hoosiers Finish in 13th at Olympia Fields Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's golf team concluded their second competition of the season on Sunday, finishing in a tie for 13th place at Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in Chicago, Ill. Indiana recorded rounds of 302, 299 and 304 for a total of 905.
Senior Alex Martin was Indiana's top individual performer with a T-28th place finish at 222 (73-74-75). Sophomore David Erdy was two strokes back at 224 (75-73-76) and claimed 37th place. Sophomore Chase Wright saved his best play for last, posting his lowest score of the weekend on Sunday with a 73. For the tournament, Wright totaled 224 strokes and finished 50th on the individual leaderboard.
A pair of freshmen in Michael McGee and Brant Peaper were also in the Hoosier line-up. Peaper contributed scores in the first and third rounds with his 78 and 80 while McGee chipped in a round of 73 in round number two. Overall, Peaper finished in a tie for 69th place (78-80-80=238) and McGee was slotted 73rd (83-73-84=240).
The Hoosiers play again next weekend (Sept. 27-28), competing in the Ping/Golfweek Invitational out in Bremerton, Wash., on the Golf Mountain Golf Course. Live scoring is scheduled to be available for the event at www.golfstat.com.
ROUND TWO RECAP
The Indiana University men's golf team improved by three strokes in their second of three rounds at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. Indiana shot 299 on Saturday, putting them at 13th place heading into the final round on Sunday.
Senior Alex Martin, a co-medalist at this same event last season, leads the Hoosiers with a two-round score of 147 (73-74); and owns a share of 23rd place. Sophomore David Erdy joins Martin in contention for a top-25 finish. The Boonville, Ind., native has posted rounds of 75 and 73 to slot him in a tie for 30th place with 18 holes to play.
Freshman Michael McGree turned things around during his second trip around the course. McGee matched Erdy on Saturday, battling for a 3-over 73. He ranks 62nd on the individual leaderboard after two rounds.

The Indiana University men's golf team is tied for 14th place after day one of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational in Chicago, Ill. Indiana recorded a team score of 302 (+22) in the opening round.
Alex Martin, a co-medalist at this same event last season, shot the best Hoosier round with a 3-over 73. Martin holds a share of 21st place with two rounds to play. David Erdy and Chase Wright also recorded scores for the Cream and Crimson by carding rounds of 75 and 76, slotting them 36th and 43rd, respectively, on the individual scoreboard. Indiana's final score contributor was freshman Brant Peaper in his collegiate debut. Peaper shot a 78 and is tied for 60th place. Fellow freshman Michael McGee also played for the Hoosiers, recording an 83.
Indiana starts their second round Saturday morning at 8:40 a.m. central time. The Olympia Fields Invitational is a 54-hole event with the third and final round taking place on Sunday.
