Sept. 23, 2012
SKOKIE, Ill. - The Indiana Men's Golf team racked up a first round team score of 298 (+14) at the Windon Memorial at Skokie Country Club on Sunday, which was good for a tie for fourth place with Tennessee. Round two was suspended due to darkness before all the teams were able to complete their scheduled second round.
In round one, Peaper played the front nine in two-over par before coming in even par on the back nine to post a 73. Hugo Menendez was even on the front before registering bogeys on 16 and 17 to finish with a 73 and a tie for ninth place overall after round one.
Corey Ziedonis continued his steady play to start the year with a first round 4-over par 75 in round one. He was 1-under par going into the final three holes but a double bogey-bogey-bogey finish led to his final score. The other score that was used in round one came from David Mills, who fired a 6-over par 77.
Freshman Sean Stone, playing as a part of the team for the first time in his career, shot an 8-over par 79 with eight bogeys in round one. In the first two tournaments of the year, Stone played as an individual with his score not counting towards the team. He is playing with the team this week after Michael McGee was a late scratch due to illness.
Northwestern, the host school for this tournament sat in first place after round one with a team score of 292 (+8). The top individual score came from Northwestern's John Callahan, who is playing this tournament as an individual and his score does not count towards the Wildcats team score.
According to the unofficial live scoring online at golfstat.com, the Hoosiers were one of six teams to complete round two before play was suspended. Indiana fired another 14-over par 298 in round two to give them a two-round total team score of 596 (+28). It leaves them in seventh place for the tournament but five of the six teams in front of them still have to complete their second rounds.
