Brandon in Top 10 After Two Rounds at Windon Memorial Classic
Oct. 7, 2007
GLENCOE, Ill. - The 22nd-ranked Indiana men's golf team sits in seventh place after one day at the Windon Memorial Classic. IU shot 577 (284-293) at the Lake Shore Country Club (par 71 - 6,667 yards).
Kent State leads the 13-team field after shooting a 9-under-par 559 (282-277). The Golden Flashes lead the second-place host Northwestern (285-284) by 10 shots and third-place Michigan (284-288) by 13 strokes.
"We got off to a pretty average start," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "I don't think we were real focused or patient today. We definitely did not play up to our potential, and we have to figure it out by tomorrow morning."
Junior Seth Brandon paced the Hoosiers with a 2-under-par 140 after opening with a 69 and closing with a 71. Brandon sits in a four-way tie for seventh place, just three shots behind the leader from Northwestern, David Lipsky (70-67). The Dalton, Ga., native is in position for his third top-10 finish of the season and the seventh of his career.
Jorge Campillo finished 36 holes in a share of 20th place. The junior matched Brandon's 2-under in the opening round before shooting a 74 in round two for a 140.
The Hoosiers most consistent golfer of the season, Alex Martin, continued that trend. After shooting four straight 222s to open the year, the sophomore posted back-to-back 72s. Martin's 144 total is good for a 25th-place tie.
Making his collegiate debut, junior walk-on Eric Serch finished day one with a 150 (74-76) and sits in a tie for 52nd. His joined by teammate and fellow junior Drew Allenspach, who matched Serch with an opening 74 followed by a second-round 76.
Indiana closes the tournament on Monday morning. Fans can follow all the action live at www.golfstat.com.
