Oct. 15, 2013
CARMEL, Ind. - The Indiana men's golf team posted a final round team score of 303 on Tuesday to finish sixth out of 14 teams with a total team score of 907 (299-305-303) at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
"We didn't get off to the best start today and that really put us in a bind, in terms of trying to make a comeback," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "So we really had to battle back against some very good teams and a superb golf course. I am very proud of how Keegan Vea played today on a very tough course, which should give him a tremendous amount of confidence moving forward."
The round of the day for Indiana belonged to freshman Keegan Vea, who carded a 2-under par 70 in his final round, including a pair of eagles on the back nine today. Individually, Vea finished T39 with a total score of 231 (81-80-70).
The lowest overall score for Indiana over the two day tournament came from senior David Mills, who finished T25 with a score of 228 (75-75-78) for his third Top 25 finish in four tournaments this fall.
Competing as an individual for the Hoosiers was Hugo Menendez, and he actually posted the best round of anyone from IU. His three round score of 227 (76-71-80) put him in a tie for 23rd and his first Top 25 finish of the season.
The University of Arkansas won the team title with a total score of 875, beating second place Purdue by five strokes. The individual champion also came from Arkansas, as Sebastian Cappelen finished with 212 (-4).
Indiana will conclude the Fall portion of its schedule next Monday and Tuesday at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Cobb, Ga., at the Pinetree Country Club.
