Oct. 26, 2008
Windermere, Fla. - The Indiana University men's golf team fired a one-over par score of 289 in the first round of the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational to sit in second place, just two strokes behind Alabama and one stroke ahead of third place USC. Leading the way for the Hoosiers is senior Jorge Campillo, who carded a four-under par 68 in his first round to tie for the individual lead.
After Campillo, senior Seth Brandon and junior Alex Martin both completed round one at even par (72) to put them in a tie for seventh individually. Senior Drew Allenspach was the fourth score that counted for the Hoosiers in round one, as he shot a five-over par 77. The fifth player for the Hoosiers in the tournament is freshman David Erdy and he finished round one in a tie for 73rd with a seven-over par 79.
Campillo started his round with a birdie on the first hole before giving that stroke back on the fourth hole with a bogey on his way out to an even-par 36 on the front nine. After making the turn, the native of Caceres, Spain, turned it on. He birdied holes 10 and 11 and then eagled the 558 yard par five 13th hole to go four-under through his first four holes on the back. Campillo then recorded pars on the final five holes to sit at four-under on the day, tied with Matthew Swan from the University of Alabama.
The Hoosiers will be back on the course on Monday for round two of the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational with tee times starting at 9:30 a.m.
