Hoosiers, Martin Win The Renaissance Invitational Title

NAPLES, Fla. - The Indiana University men's golf team concluded their fall schedule with a bang, winning The Renaissance Invitational in Naples, Fla., on Monday. The tournament title marks the 15th for IU under the leadership of Head Coach Mike Mayer.
"This was a nice way to finish out the fall," said Mayer. "We played really well at times, and simply got the job done. We made some putts when we needed to."
Indiana finished 32 strokes under par with a three-round total of 832. The Hoosiers topped runner-up Penn State by two strokes to win the event.
Senior Alex Martin led the way for the Cream and Crimson, taking home individual medalist honors. Martin was 16-under for the tournament, taking a total of 200 strokes (69-64-67).
"Alex played an outstanding tournament," said Mayer. "After some early struggles, he battled Penn State's Kevin Foley down the stretch, beating out one of our conference's best golfers."
Sophomore David Erdy joined Martin in the top-10 on the individual leaderboard. The Boonville, Ind., native finished strong, shooting 69 in his final round. For the event, Erdy shot 211 (-5).
Freshman Brant Peaper captured the highest individual finish of his young Hoosier career, placing 14th. Playing in his home state of Florida, Peaper carded rounds of 72, 68 and 72 to shoot four-under.
"I am really pleased with Brant Peaper and how he played," said Mayer.
Sophomore Chase Wright contributed a pair of scores to the team total with his 68 in the opening round and 73 in the final round. Wright totaled 218, earning him a share of 31st place individually. Freshman Corey Ziedonis rounded out the Hoosier line-up, and provided IU with a 68 in the second round. At the end, he finished 6-over and was tied for 41st place.

IU Men's Golf has a chance to conclude their fall schedule with a tournament title, back just one stroke at The Renaissance Invitational with one round to play on Monday. The Hoosiers shot 25-under in their two rounds on Sunday.
Indiana has racked up a tournament-best 44 birdies thus far, led by senior Alex Martin and his 15 birdies. The Middletown, Ohio, native shares the top spot on the individual leaderboard after carding scores of 69 and 64. He is 11-under entering the final round.
Three more Hoosiers join Martin in the top-20, including freshman Brant Peaper who is tied for 10th place. Peaper improved by four strokes in his second round on Sunday, shooting a 68 after his 72 in the opening round. David Erdy and Corey Ziedonis posted identical two-round totals of 142 for a share of 18th place. The Hoosier tandem reached two-under in different manners, however. Erdy shot consecutive 71's while Ziedonis rebounded from a first-round 74 to record a 68 on his second trip around the course.
Chase Wright completed the Hoosier line-up, and contributed a 68 to the team score in the first round. Overall, he is tied for 31st at one-over (145).
Indiana did most of their damage on the par-3 and par-5 holes. The Hoosiers lead the tournament in both par-3 and par-5 scoring; playing those holes four-under and 21-under, respectively.
