Hoosiers Tied For Ninth After First Round of Warrior-Wave Intercollegiate
Nov. 5, 2012
PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii - The Indiana men's golf team (No. 41 Golfstat/No. 39 Golfweek) rallied on the back nine during the first round of the Warrior-Wave Intercollegiate presented by St. Regis Princeville Resort to post a 7-over par team score of 295 and tie for ninth place out of 16 teams.
The Hoosiers started off the first tee and when they made the turn, the five players were a combined 13-over par. But the back nine was an entirely different story, as the five players combined for a 2-under par, led by Michael McGee's four birdie effort on the closing nine holes.
McGee went out in 39 but came in in 32 for a 1-under par round of 71 to pace IU. Corey Ziedonis logged three birdies on his round of 2-over par 74 and had it to even-par before a double bogey on the final hole. Brant Peaper was steady on his round with one birdie, two bogeys and a double bogey on his way to a 3-over par 75. Rounding out the scores that counted for IU was David Mills, who also posted a 3-over par 75 with four bogeys and one birdie on his card.
Individually, McGee is in 13th place while Ziedonis is tied for 32nd. Peaper and Mills check in at a tie for 38th while Hugo Menendez is tied for 48th with his 4-over par 76 in the first round.
Amoi Mahal (UC Santa Barbara), Adrian Meronk (ETSU) and Korey Ward (Xavier) share the individual lead after round one at 4-under par. The team lead is held by Georgia Southern at 5-under par (283).
Indiana will tee off at 9:00 a.m. HST (2:00 p.m. EST) on Tuesday in round two at the Makai Golf Club. Live scoring is being provided by GolfStat.com.
