Overton Kicks Off 2006 PGA Season at Sony Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Jeff Overton begins his first full season as a member of the PGA Tour on Thursday, Jan. 12 at the Sony Open. The former Indiana men's golf All-American tees off in the opening round at 1:29 p.m. (GMT)/6:29 p.m. (EST) from tee No. 10 at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Vijay Singh is the defending champion at the Sony. All four rounds of the event will be televised on ESPN with broadcast times starting at 6:30-9 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, 8-10:30 p.m. on Friday, 7-10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7-10 p.m. on Sunday.
Overton finished in a tie for 13th place at the PGA's Q-School (Nov. 30-Dec. 5) to earn his PGA Tour card. The Evansville, Ind., native completed the grueling six-round qualifier at 13-under-par 419 (68-71-69-74-68-69).
The Sony is Overton's second career PGA event. He played in the Buick Championship (Aug. 25-28) last season.
In addition to Overton, former Hoosier and 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel is in the field. Micheel tees off at 8:12 a.m. (GMT) on Jan. 12.
