Jan. 12, 2009
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Several Hoosiers, competing unattached, completed their weekend down in Florida at the New Year's Inivitational with a bang. Alex Martin led the way by completing a 13th place showing with a final round 71 for a 72-hole total of 290 (72-73-74-71).
Brandon Pike continued his tear through the final 54 holes with his 71 on Sunday. Pike rebounded from an opening-round 81 to card scores of 73, 73 and 71 over the next three days to vault himself up the leaderboard into a tie for 32nd place. Chase Wright was not far behind as he shared 37th place following a very consistent 300 (74-76-75-75).
David Erdy may have been the top IU highlight on Sunday, however, posting a 69 in his final round. He was one of only three players in the entire field to shoot a sub-70 score on the final day. For the weekend, Erdy tied for 40th place at 302 (76-82-76-69). Teammate Ren Han matched Erdy with a 302 of his own (75-78-72-77).
