Hoosiers Stay Busy On The Course During Winter Break
Jan. 15, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Members of the Indiana Men's Golf team kept their tournament game sharp over the winter break from classes, competing in a number of different tournaments and coming away with good results. While none of the tournaments effect their collegiate scores or team scores, it was a good way for them to get more tournament experience during some down time in the collegiate schedule.
Brant Peaper and John Beringer both competed in the Dixie Amateur in Coral Springs, Fla., along with former Hoosier David Erdy. It would be Erdy that had the best showing of the three, finishing in a three-way tie for eighth place with a four round total of 283 (69-71-74-69). His final round 69 was the best round of the day among the 73 players that made the cut for the final round. Peaper was just four strokes behind Erdy in 17th place with a four round total of 287 (70-70-72-75). Beringer finished in a tie for 63rd with a total score of 299 (73-71-75-80).
The tournament started with nearly 250 golfers playing one round each at Heron Bay, Woodlands Country Club and Palm Aire Country Club before the 54-hole cut brought 73 players back for a second go round at Heron Bay.
Hugo Menendez played in the Puntuable de Invierno FGPA tournament in Madrid, Spain, where he placed third out of 32 golfers. He posted a three round total of 210 (68-72-70), three strokes out of first place.
There were four members of the current team - David Mills, Brant Peaper, Sean Stone and Max Kollin - that played in the New Years Invitational that ran Jan. 3-6 at the St. Petersburg Country Club in Florida. Peaper once again led the charge with a score of 292 (72-73-72-75), while David Mills was not far behind at 297 (77-76-74-70). Kollin checked in next with a score of 310 (76-74-76-84) while Stone posted 322 (78-74-85-85).
David Erdy also participated in the event and finished in 10th place with a score of 286 (78-73-68-67). Andrew Havill, who has signed a letter of intent to play for the Hoosiers starting in the fall of 2013, also competed and finished with a tournament score of 313 (78-77-80-78).
The Hoosiers will start the Spring portion of the 2012-13 season at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Bradenton, Fla., at The Concession Golf Course
