Overton Starts PGA Season in Top 25 at Sony Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Kicking of his 2006 PGA Tour campaign in impressive fashion, Jeff Overton tied for 24th place at the Sony Open (Jan. 12-15). The former Indiana men's golf All-American finished at 3-under-par 277 at Waialae Country Club (par 70) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Playing in his first full season on the Tour and just his second PGA event, Overton opened with a 2-over 72. In round two, he sat at 5-over through 16 holes before recording birdies on the closing two holes to make the cut right on the number.
Overton turned in his best performance in round three, collecting five birdies and one bogey en route to a 4-under-par 66, his lowest round as a professional. The Evansville, Ind., native closed out the tournament with a 2-under 68 for his 3-under 277 total.
David Toms captured the title at the event, finishing at 19-under-par 261. Rory Sabbatini and Chad Campbell shared second with 14-under-par 266s.
