Leen and Landry Remain in Striking Distance

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In today's second round at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, the Indiana men's golf team once again carded one of its better rounds of the season. The squad, led by Randy Leen and Brent Landry, tallied a 292, their third lowest round of the season. Coupling that with yesterday's season-low of 284 puts the Hoosiers in a tie for seventh with Florida.

Leading the race for team medalist honors is South Carolina, whose two-round total is 559, an amazing 17 strokes below par and 10 strokes ahead of its nearest competition, Augusta State and Mississippi State.

For the Hoosiers, Brent Landry followed his career-low round of 69 from yesterday with a one-under 71 today, leaving him in a tie for fifth, just two shots off the lead. Landry has cracked the top 50 just once this season, and his career best finish is a tie for 11th, occurring at the Marshall Invitational last season. Randy Leen posted his second consecutive round of 71 today, good enough for a tie for 17th, just four shots behind the current leader, Travis Perkins of Florida Southern.

Junior John Barry is also looking for his career-best finish. He currently stands in a tie for 36th after scoring a 75 today. Barry's best finish, a tie for 30th, came at the Persimmon Ridge Intercollegiate earlier this season.

The final round of the tournament will be played on Monday beginning at 7:45 am.
