Brandon Named Big Ten Golfer of the Week
March 19, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Seth Brandon picked up his first weekly honor from the Big Ten, as he was named Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. Brandon, who earned the second victory of his career with a one-shot win at the 100-player Pinehurst Intercollegiate, is the first Hoosier golfer to take home weekly honors since Jorge Campillo did so following last year's IU victory at Pinehurst.
Brandon led the Hoosiers to a dominant 24-shot victory, the team's second straight at Pinehurst. The junior now has a first, second and tie for fifth to his credit in eight events this season.
He opened the tournament with a 69, making him the lone player in the field to break 70, and finished at even-par 216. He now has four rounds in the 60s this year and is second on the team with a 72.96 scoring average.
Brandon shares the team lead with three top-five, four top-10 and six top-25 finishes this season. His victory marked the first for a Hoosier individual since Campillo won the 2007 Pinehurst.
Up next, the Hoosiers return to their true home course for the adidas Hoosier Invitational. Indiana will look for its second straight victory on Saturday-Sunday, March 29-30.
