Hoosiers Tied for Fourth at National Invitational Tournament
March 21, 2011
TUCSON, Ariz. -
The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team (No. 28 Golfweek-Sagarin/No. 30 Golfstat) recorded a 15-over par 303 in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament and is 10-over through 17 holes of the second round, putting the squad in a tie for fourth place when play was halted due to darkness at the Omni Tucson National Golf Club.
The tournament uses a format that features all five team members playing together in the same group, thus all five Hoosiers were halted 17 holes into their second round. Round two will be completed on Tuesday morning, followed by the final round as an 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
The Hoosiers are nine strokes behind a trio of teams tied atop the leaderboard, as SMU, Tulsa, and Arizona each finished with 16-over 584. The three leading teams were among 12 squads that finished all 36 holes on day one. Indiana is joined in fourth by Kent State and UNLV.
David Erdy posted a 2-over 74 in the first round and is the top Hoosier on the leaderboard. Erdy is 2-over during his second round and tied for eighth.
David Mills is the second Indiana player in the top-20, finishing in a tie for 17th. The freshman posted a 2-over 74 in the first round and is 4-over in round two.
Chase Wright is tied for 21st after a first round 77, followed by a 2-over performance in the second round.
Brant Peaper, coming off his first individual title at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate last month, posted a 6-over 78 in round one. He is currently tied for 27th after putting together a 2-over second round when play was suspended.
Kyle Perry rounded out the Indiana lineup with a 7-over 79 in the first round and is 7-over during round two, leaving the Bloomington, Ind. native in a tie for 67th.
