Indiana Enters the Top 20, Readies for adidas Hoosier Invitational
March 24, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Following its dominating 24-stroke victory at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, the Indiana men's golf team has moved into the top 20 in the latest Golfweek rankings. The Hoosiers now sit 18th in the country and are the top-rated Big Ten team in the March 23 poll.
Junior Jorge Campillo is the team's top-ranked individual, just missing out on the top 50 at No. 51. Meanwhile, the reigning Big Ten Golfer of the Week and Pinehurst medalist winner, Seth Brandon, moved up to No. 79.
At Pinehurst, all five Hoosiers in the lineup and one individual finished in the top 10. Indiana shot a 1-over 865 for the 54-hole tournament, while Eastern Kentucky placed second at 889.
Brandon earned the second victory of his career by one shot and became the first Hoosier golfer to take home weekly honors since Jorge Campillo did so following last year's IU victory at Pinehurst.
This weekend, Indiana returns home for the adidas Hoosier Invitational. The Hoosiers will host the 17-team event on Saturday-Sunday, March 29-30, at the IU Golf Course.
