MEN'S GOLF ON ITS WAY TO KENTUCKY FOR JOHNNY OWENS

Tournament Data: The Indiana University men's golf team will participate in the Johnny Owens Invitational Golf Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky April 2-3 at the Kearney Hills Golf Links. The tournament will be a 54-hole event, with 36 holes to be played Friday and the final 18 holes on Saturday.

The Teams: (18) Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (OH), Morehead State, Murray State, Notre Dame, Ohio University, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky, Wright State, Xavier, Youngstown State.

The Hoosiers: After a week of practice in Florida for spring break, the men's golf team had a difficult time getting back into tournament form last week at the Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas. The Hoosiers finished 10th with a total score of 900.

Leading the way for IU in Dallas was junior John Barry. Barry turned in a three round score of 221 (74, 73, 74) to finish in 20th position. The overall winner of the tournament was Luke Donald of Northwestern, 206 (69, 71, 66).

Coach Mike Mayer was slightly disappointed with his teams performance in Texas, and says that they need one person to step up and become the team leader.

"We need to continue to improve," he said. "As soon as we get somebody to step forward and shoot under par, we'll be a lot better off."
