Peters Earns Big Ten Accolade
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University sophomore Heath Peters has been named the Big Ten Men's Golfer of the Week for his efforts at the Johnny Owens Invitational last weekend.
Peters' honor is the first for a Hoosier golfer since classmate Jeff Overton won co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors last year.
Despite poor playing conditions in Lexington, Ky., Peters won his first individual championship at the Johnny Owens Invitational. Peters recorded a 4-over-par total of 220, including an opening round 2-under-par 70 on the Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky. The sophomore's round of 70 marked the lowest round for the event. Peters topped Vanderbilt's Brandt Snedeker, who is ranked by Golfweek/Sagarin as the No. 1 golfer in the nation.
Indiana finished second in the event, three strokes back of Vanderbilt.
The Hoosiers and Peters return to the links Friday at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.V.
