April 9, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Jorge Campillo earned his first weekly honor from the Big Ten this season, as he was named Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. Campillo now has six league awards in his career and he joins Seth Brandon as the second Hoosier to receive league accolades this year.
Campillo collected the fourth victory of his career and his first of the season at the UMB Bank-Mizzou Tiger Classic on April 7-8. He was victorious at the 2007 GADO North Texas Classic and the 2007 Pinehurst Intercollegiate in back-to-back weeks, and he also captured the 2006 Boilermaker Invitational title as a freshman.
At the UMB Bank-Mizzou Tiger Classic, he shot a 4-under-par 212, including a career-best 66 in round two, to earn a three-shot victory in the 70-player field. The second round score also set a competitive course record at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
The Caceres, Spain, native led the Hoosiers to a five-stroke victory, the team's second of 2008 and second in its last three events. Campillo leads the Hoosiers with a 72.38 scoring average in 10 events this season. He has four top-five, five top-10 and eight top-25 finishes.
Up next, the Hoosiers face one more challenge before the 2008 Big Ten Championships. The team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday-Monday, April 19-20.
