BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - For the third time after four tournaments this spring, Indiana freshman men's golfer Jorge Campillo has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on April 11. Campillo is the first Hoosier to collect the award three times in one season since current PGA Tour member Jeff Overton (2002-05) won the award five times during the 2003-04 campaign.

Campillo claimed his first career title at the Boilermaker Invitational this past weekend (April 8-9) by eight strokes to become the first Hoosier to win a tournament since Overton claimed medalist honors at the 2005 Big Ten Championships (May 6-8). Additionally, he became the first true freshman to win an event since current assistant coach Josh Brewer was victorious at the 1995 Legends Intercollegiate.

"Jorge definitely made a statement with his victory at the Boilermaker," Mayer said. "It was an outstanding performance on one of the most difficult golf courses in college golf. To win this tournament by eight strokes with such an outstanding field is quite an accomplishment. Jorge Campillo has arrived on the college golf scene and the best is yet to come."

The Caceres, Spain native led Indiana to its first title since the 2004 Xavier Invitational (Oct. 11-12) and the seventh title in head coach Mike Mayer's eight-year career. The Hoosiers torched the field, finishing 14 strokes ahead of second-place Purdue. Campillo capped off a remarkable tournament with a spectacular 68, matching his low round of the season (4 times), for a 4-under 212 total. He opened with a 74 before posting a 2-under 70 in round two and the lowest round in the 72-player field in the third and final round.

Campillo lowered his season scoring average to 72.19 and remained on pace to shatter Overton's freshman scoring record of 74.45 set back in 2001-02.

Up next, Campillo and the Hoosiers continue their stretch run at the Kepler Intercollegiate on Saturday-Sunday, April 15-16. Ohio State will host the tournament at the renowned Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
