IU Finishes 4th at Kepler
Columbus, Ohio - Entering Sunday's final round in a tie for second place, the Hoosiers were unable to convert their chances and fell to fourth place behind Illinois and Kentucky. The Hoosiers shot 901 (302-298-301), one shot shy of Kentucky and four shy of the Illini. Ohio State won its own tournament with a score of 893 (297-294-302).
Indiana's current Big Ten Golfer of the Week, Jeff Overton, led the Hoosiers with a five-over-par performance for the tournament, finishing in a four-way tie for fourth place after beginning the day tied for the lead at 1-under-par. With a final round of 78, Overton had the highest round of the season but played solid golf to lead the team with a 221, (72-71-78).
"Overall I'm pleased with how we played this weekend," said IU head coach Mike Mayer. "Jeff had a great tournament, unfortunately he just had some mistakes early in his round today."
Aldo Jordan came through for the Hoosiers with a final-round 74 to shoot a total 224 (74-76-74) in the Intercollegiate. His performance landed him in a five-way tie for 13th place.
Scott Seibert was the third Hoosier golfer in the top 20 with 227 (77-75-75), finishing in 19th place. Heath Peters steadily improved over the three rounds, ending with 230 (80-76-74). Ben Davidson rounded out the Hoosiers top five with 239 (79-79-81).
By finishing in the top five Sunday, this is the first time a Hoosier squad has finished in the top-five in three consecutive tournaments since the 1996-97 season (4th, Southeastern Intercollegiate; 4th, Dr. Pepper Intercollegiate; 3rd, Marshall Invitational). Indiana finished second at the Johnny Owens and tied for second at the Marshall Invitational prior to the Kepler Intercollegiate.
