April 22, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana Golf programs will have a new home come late August as the completion of their brand-new Team Center is expected by Aug. 20. Both the men's and women's golf programs will move into the new building located adjacent to the state-of-the-art IU Golf Team Practice Facility.
"This is another big step for the golf programs at Indiana University," said Head Men's Golf Coach Mike Mayer. "To have a `home' where we can meet, study, socialize and recruit will be a big asset for both programs. It's been a long time coming, but our time is finally here."
"We are very excited for our new facility as it is a wonderful base for both the men's and women's teams," said Head Women's Golf Coach Clint Wallman. "It will definitely be state-of-the-art with the new teaching room and all the equipment and I am looking forward to August when we can move in."
The new facility, which is set begin official construction on May 4th, will provide each program with their own offices and locker rooms. In addition, a shared team room, study room and club repair room will also be available for use by the student-athletes, coaches and staff. A teaching area, equipped with today's newest golf technology will allow the Hoosiers to further fine-tune their swings as well.
Future additions will also include an indoor putting green and an outdoor patio to entertain recruits and alumni. The patio will open up directly onto the Team Practice Facility, one of the finest such short-game practice facilities in the country.
