Tournament Data: The Indiana University men's golf team will participate in the 34th annual Fossum Invitational. The tournament will be held at the Forest Acres West Golf Course, a 7,003 yard, par-72 layout, with 36 holes of action scheduled to start on Saturday, May 1 and 18 holes to be played on Sunday, May 2.
Teams (17): Akron, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (OH), Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Toledo, Wisconsin, Wright State, Xavier.
The Hoosiers: IU is coming off a 12th place finish at the Kepler Intercollegiate. The Hoosiers fired rounds of 307, 314 and 296 for a total of 927. John Barry (75-80-75) and Steve Wheatcroft (75-77-78) were the top finishers for IU, tying for 24th place with a total of 230.
This week coach Mike Mayer has changed the line-up in hopes of adding some fire to his team. Mayer will start freshman Jon Oliver in his first collegiate tournament. "Jon brings potential for low scores and he's very capable of shooting low numbers," Mayer said. "I'm looking for him to give this team a spark."
Mayer is also hopeful that his team, and Corey Sullivan will remember last year. At last year's Big Ten Championships, which was held on the same course that will be played this week, Sullivan finished tied for second with rounds of 72-73-72-73 (290). The Hoosiers also captured the Big Ten title, firing rounds of 302-296-291-288 for a total 1177.
