Alex Martin Tabbed as All-Big Ten Honoree
May 4, 2010
CHICAGO, Ill. - Just two days after finishing sixth at the 2010 Men's Golf Big Ten Championship, Indiana's senior captain Alex Martin was named to the All-Big Ten second team on Tuesday (May 4). It marks the second straight season Martin has been honored by the conference, earning first team honors as a junior.
The Middletown, Ohio native won his second career individual medalist honor this season, leading the Hoosiers to the team title as well at The Renaissance Intercollegiate to conclude the fall season.
Martin has remained red-hot during the spring campaign, notching top-10 finishes in three of four stroke-play events. He has five top-10's on the year, including a T-6th showing at the ultra-competitive PING/Golfweek Invitational back in September.
Martin's 72.43 season scoring average is not only the best on the team, but also currently ranked as eight-lowest in school history. In addition, his 74.24 career scoring average is slotted sixth all-time in IU lore.
Freshman Brant Peaper was also recognized by the conference office on Tuesday, named one of 11 Sportsmanship Award honorees.
The Hoosiers will find out their NCAA Regional fate on Monday, May 10 with the Men's Golf Selection Show scheduled for 6 p.m. The show is set to be broadcast online at www.ncaa.com.
