Allenspach Named Academic All-District V for Second Time

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's golfer Drew Allenspach earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V honors in the at-large category as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday. The junior collected the accolade for the second straight season and will now be placed on the ballot for All-America consideration.
Allenspach, who carries a perfect 4.0 GPA, is an accounting and finance major. On the golf course, the Sugar Land, Texas native is a key component on a Hoosier team that advanced to the NCAA Finals for the first time since 1996.
He holds a 74.33 scoring average, which is third on the team, in 12 tournaments (36 rounds). Allenspach also ranks 12th in Indiana history with a 74.81 career scoring average. In 2007-08, he has collected one top-five, three top-10 and six top-25 finishes, including a fifth-place showing at the UMB Bank-Mizzou Tiger Classic on April 7-8.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be of sophomore standing or higher and have a grade point average of at least 3.2. The at-large category consists of student-athletes from women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and wrestling.
The Hoosiers are one of 30 teams set to compete for a national championship at the finals of the NCAA Championships on Wednesday-Saturday, May 28-31. Purdue University will host the event at the Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
