Campillo Named First Team All-America ... Again
May 30, 2009
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Jorge Campillo was named a First Team All-American on Saturday, his second consecutive season garnering that recognition. The First Team consists of the country's top ten golfers.
Campillo is just the second Hoosier in school history to earn multiple First Team All-America awards, matching Wayne McDonald's back-to-back feat in 1969-70. Campillo is joined as a first-teamer by:
Rickie Fowler, Oklahoma State
The Caceres, Spain native was also one of three finalists for the Ben Hogan Award, given to the top men's college golfer in the country, taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.
Campillo was also named the Big Ten Player of the Year for the second time in 2009. He had three wins this collegiate season - Wolf Run Intercollegiate, Windon Memorial and adidas Hoosier Invitational. Campillo posted three other top five showings and only placed outside of the top 10 three times in 12 events. The reigning Spanish Amateur champion, he finished tied for second at last year's NCAA Championships, fourth at the Biarritz Cup and made the quarterfinals of the British Amateur. Campillo was recently named to compete in his third Palmer Cup.
