IU Signee Wins State Title And Earns Co-Medalist Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Christian Fairbanks, who has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Indiana University in the fall, wrapped up his high school career at Columbus North in style today. He helped propel CNHS to the team title at the IHSAA Boy's State Golf Championship at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. Fairbanks also earned co-medalist honors for the tournament, finishing at 3-under par over the two-day event.
The Bulldogs posted a team score of 299 on the first day and then bettered that on day two, firing a score of 292 on Wednesday to win the state championship by 11 strokes of Westfield High School.
Fairbanks carded a 1-under par round of 71 on Tuesday before posting a 2-under par 70 on Wednesday to tie his CNHS teammate, Michael VanDeventer, for medalist honors at 3-under par (141).
The team title is the first in men's golf for Columbus North High School since 1934.
Jake Brown (Carmel, Ind.), who will also be a freshman at IU in the fall, birdied four holes on the back nine of the second round to finish in fifth place individually.
