BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - David Mills, a rising junior on the Indiana men's golf team, qualified for the Nationwide Tour's United Leasing Championship after firing a 7-under 63 on Monday at the Country Club of Old Vincennes to finish tied for second in a strong field of 112 competitors.
Mills was one of seven players to advance from the qualifier to earn a spot in the United Leasing Championship, which begins Thursday, June 28 at Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Ind.
The Evansville, Ind. native was 1-over through five holes before reeling off birdies on six of his next nine to get back in the mix. Mills added a clutch eagle on the par-5 16th and a birdie on the 17th to surge to 7-under.
Former Hoosier standouts David Erdy and Chase Wright also attempted to qualify, competing at Quail Crossing Golf Club on Monday. Both posted solid scores, but did not qualify for the Nationwide Tour event.
Erdy posted a 7-under 64 and Wright recorded a 5-under 66. At Quail Crossing, an 8-under 63 was needed to get into a playoff for the final spots.
