Pike Advances to U.S. Am Public Links Match Play

BREMERTON, Wash. - Rising men's golf freshman Brandon Pike advanced to match play at the 81st U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on July 11 at the Gold Mountain Golf Club. Pike posted a second-round 76 to claim one of the final slots in the match play portion of the event.
After carding a 2-over-par 74 in the opening round on July 10, Pike claimed his 76 for a two-day 150 total, which placed him in a tie for 57th place. The top 64 players in the field advanced to match play.
Pike will take on fifth-seeded John Cassidy of Yelm, Wash., on Wednesday, July 12, at 9:48 a.m. PT (12:48 ET). Cassidy finished stroke play in fifth place with a 4-under 140 following back-to-back rounds of 70.
Mitch Cohlmia (67-70) of Tulsa, Okla., and Justin Metzger (69-68) of Knoxville, Tenn., shared medalist honors at 7-under 137.

Pike qualified for the event at on June 23-24 at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind. The Huntington, Ind., native is one of 144 sectional qualifiers in the field of 156 (12 earned sectional byes). The USGA held sectional qualifying with 4,739 entrants at 35 sites across the country in mid-June.
