    Overton Advances to Match Play at Western Am

    Benton Harbor, Mich. - Indiana men's junior golfer Jeff Overton finished 10th overall at the conclusion of stoke play and advanced to match play at the 102nd Western Amateur at Point O'Woods Golf & Country Club.

    Overton played his first nine holes of golf at 1-over-par before heating up on his final 27 holes. Beginning on the back nine of his first round, Overton birdied five holes to finish with a 4-under 66.

    The Evansville, Ind., native continued to play brilliant golf as he finished his second 18 holes with a 2-under-par 68. After his bogey on the ninth hole of round three, Overton played bogey-free golf the remaining 27 holes on the day.

    In addition, senior Heath Peters finished tied for 23rd after playing his final two rounds at 71 and 69 to close with a 281. Junior Brad Marek finished with a four-round 287 total (66 -76-73-72).

    Georgia Southern's Aron Price won medalist honors for having the lowest score after stroke play with a third-round score of 67 and a final-round 61. The native of Australia finished with a 15-under par score of 265. Nathan Smith of Duke and former Kansas standout Tyler Hall finished second at 272.

    With the field pared down to 16 players, match play is set to begin on Saturday. The opening round of matches will take place Saturday morning followed by the quarterfinals matches in the afternoon. The semifinals will be held Sunday morning, with the championship match set for Sunday afternoon.
