Benton Harbor, Mich. - After finishing tied for 10th in the stroke play portion of the 102nd Western Amateur, Indiana men's junior golfer Jeff Overton was eliminated in the first round of match play. Overton fell to former California standout Peter Tomasulo and the fourth-ranked amateur in Golfweek's standings, 4 and 2, at Point O'Woods Golf & Country Club.

Overton, Golfweek's 10th-ranked amateur, played phenomenal golf on his final 27 holes on Friday to advance to match play. After playing his first nine holes at 1-over-par, Overton began his streak on the back nine, where he birdied five holes to finish with a 4-under 66.

The Evansville, Ind., native continued to play brilliant golf as he finished his second 18 holes with a 2-under-par 68. Following his bogey on the ninth hole of round three, Overton played bogey-free golf the remaining 27 holes.

Tomasulo won his second match of the day as well, advancing to the semifinals on Sunday. The Long Beach, Calif., product will be joined by Georgia Southern senior Aron Price, Australian James Nitties and NCAA Champion and UNLV senior Ryan Moore.

Overton will compete at the U.S. Amateur on August 16-22, at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaronek, N.Y.
