Men's Golf Announces 2013-14 Schedule
Aug. 8, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Men's Golf Head Coach Mike Mayer announced the schedule for the 2013-14 season on Thursday (Aug. 8) and it features three events where IU will be serving has host.
Mayer, entering his 16th season as the head coach at IU, will get the season underway at the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 6-8) at Rich Harvest Farms GC in Sugar Grove, Ill. Last season, Indiana opened the year at the Northern Intercollegiate and came away with the first place trophy.
The next week (Sept. 13-15) is the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields CC in Chicago. The tournament annually features one of the best fields of the year with teams from across the country competing at the prestigious course.
The seventh annual Wolf Run Intercollegiate takes place Sept. 21-22 at Wolf Run Golf Club in Zionsville, where Indiana is the host school and also finished runner-up last year and got a record-setting performance by then-senior Brant Peaper.
A new event pops up on the schedule in October (14-15) when Indiana welcomes a strong 14-team field to Crooked Stick Golf Course for the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate. The last time IU hosted an event at Crooked Stick was in April of 2010, when the Hoosiers placed fourth out of 12 teams.
The fall portion of the schedule concludes with the Pinetree Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club in Cobb, Ga., on Oct. 21-22.
To open the Spring schedule, the Hoosiers will once again join the other members of the Big Ten Conference for the Big Ten Match Play Championship at The Concession GC in Bradenton Fla., for the two day event (Feb. 7-8). Indiana went 1-1-1 at last year's event at the same course.
Palm Valley GC in Goodyear, Ariz., will be the site of the second tournament of the Spring, as IU takes part in the Snowman Getaway from April 24-25.
The team will take part in an IU Golf Alumni match in Naples, Fla., on March 7 before jumping back into collegiate play at the Talis Park Challenge, also in Naples, at Talis Park, GC. Two weeks after that, the Hoosiers head to Kannapolis, N.C., for the Irish Creek Collegiate on April 5-6.
IU returns home for the NYX Hoosier Invitational at the IU Golf Course on April 12-13. The Hoosiers won this tournament last year, led by a medalist performance by Andrew Fogg.
To round out the regular season, Indiana heads north to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Boilermaker Invitational at Kampen GC on the campus of Purdue University. Last year, Indiana finished tied for sixth in the event.
The Big Ten Championships will once again be held at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick from May 2-4. Indiana finished fourth last year on their way to qualifying for NCAA postseason play.
Mayer and the Hoosiers have earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament as a team in nine of the past 10 seasons, as well as advancing individuals in two campaigns, to mark 11 straight years that IU Men's Golf has been represented in the postseason and they will look to continue that streak in 2013-14.
