Aug. 10, 2011
ATLANTA, Ga. - The Indiana men's golf program is well-represented this week at the Atlanta Athletic Club for professional golf's final major, the 2011 PGA Championship. The field includes three former Hoosier standouts, as Shaun Micheel, Dan Olsen, and Jeff Overton will tee it up beginning on Thursday.
Micheel, winner of the 2003 PGA Championship, is slated to begin at 1:15 p.m. EDT paired alongside Martin Kaymer and Y.E. Yang. Micheel competed for the Hoosiers from 1988-91, collecting All-America honors and a Big Ten title in 1991, as well as All-Big Ten status on two occasions.
Olsen, an All-Big Ten selection in 1988, starts on the 10th tee at 9:35 a.m. EDT with Brandt Jobe and Fredrik Andersson Hed. Olsen played at Indiana from 1986-89, registering a career stroke average of 74.24.
Overton will get things started on the 10th tee at 8:45 a.m. EDT with Ian Poulter and Bubba Watson. After a breakout 2010 season, the Evansville, Ind. native has made the cut in 18 of 20 events this year, including a tie for third at the AT&T National. Overton, a two-time All-American at IU, has totaled three top-10 finishes in 2011.
