Overton Ties for Second at Wyndham Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Former Indiana two-time All-American Jeff Overton (2002-05) finished in a three-way tie for second place at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday afternoon. Overton picked up the best finish of his career at the Forest Oaks County Club.
"We are extremely proud of Jeff's accomplishment's this weekend," Indiana 10-year head coach Mike Mayer said. "This is another big step in his career and I have no doubt greater things are on the horizon."
The Evansville, Ind., native entered the final round with a three-shot lead, but winner Brandt Snedeker shot a 9-under 63 to earn a two-shot victory. Overton finished at 20-under par for the tournament, tied with Tim Petrovic and Billy Mayfair.
With his finish, Overton moved into 109th place in the FedEx Cup standings and qualified for the first two weeks of the four-week FedEx Cup playoff.
Overton fired a final-round 70 after posting 65, 67 and 66 in the first three rounds. He now has two top-10 finishes this season and four in his career.
Additionally, former Hoosier Steve Wheatcroft (1998-01) made the cut and finished in a share of 49th place at 10-under par.
Coincidentally, the IU men's golf team will play at Forest Oak later this fall. The Hoosiers travel to Greensboro for the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate on Oct. 29-30.
