Hoosiers Kick Off Season at Inverness Intercollegiate

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's golf team will travel to the Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 10-11, in Toledo, Ohio. The event will be hosted by the University of Toledo and played at the Inverness Club. The course is set up as a par 71 with a yardage of 7,255.
The event consists of three rounds, 36 holes played on Monday and the final 18 holes taking place on Tuesday. Fourteen teams will join Indiana and Toledo in the field, including Big Ten rivals Michigan and No. 30 Michigan State. Four teams ranked in the top 10 of the final 2006-07 Golfweek NCAA rankings - No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Southern Cal and No. 10 UNLV - will appear in Toledo. In addition, five more schools - No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 20 Florida State, No. 21 Louisville, Michigan State and No. 33 TCU - are scheduled to participate. Rounding out the field are Kent State, Kentucky, Missouri and UNC-Greensboro.
Tournament play begins Monday with a shotgun first-round start at 8 a.m. EDT. The second 18 opens with a shotgun start following the completion of round one. On Tuesday, the final round commences with an 8 a.m. start.
This is the seventh-annual Inverness Intercollegiate, and the Hoosiers are making their first appearance at the event. The Inverness Club was founded in 1903 and along with the University of Toledo will serve as host for the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Inverness has hosted four U.S. Opens, one U.S. Amateur, one U.S. Senior Open and two PGA Championships.
