BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After closing out the NCAA Central Regional Preview (Sept. 12-13), the Indiana men's golf team will return to the links following a brief three-day break to compete at the Gopher Invitational. Minnesota will host the tournament on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 17-18, in Minneapolis.

The Hoosiers closed out the NCAA preview 11th in the 17-team field, shooting 894 (300-297-297). Freshmen Jorge Campillo (T15) and Drew Allenspach (T22) both netted top-25 finishes in their collegiate debuts, with Campillo's finish the best for a freshman in his first event since Ryan Cassidy tied for sixth place at the 2000 Legends Intercollegiate.

As for the Gopher Invitational, Minnesota will host its first tournament since the 2000 PSInet Invitational at Spring Hill Golf Club. Spring Hill is set up as a par 72 with a yardage of 7,020. Golf Digest rated Spring Hill as the fifth-best new private course in the country in 200.

The event consists of three rounds, 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday. Along with Indiana and Minnesota, 10 other teams will be competing at the event, including Big Ten rival Purdue. Rounding out the field will be UAB, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Memphis, UNC-Wilmington, Notre Dame, SMU, Stanford and Washington.

Tournament play begins Saturday with a shotgun first-round (18) start at 8:30 a.m. The second round (18) opens with a shotgun start following the completion of round one. On Sunday, the final round commences with shotgun tee times starting at 8:30 a.m.

"The Gopher Invitational will give us one of the strongest fields we will play in all year," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "It is an outstanding event from top to bottom. Spring Hills is one of the top new golf courses in the country. It's just a first-class event, a first-class field, and we are looking forward to the challenge."
