    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University men's golf team will travel to the Gopher Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 15-16, in Minneapolis. The event will be hosted by the University of Minnesota and played at Spring Hill Golf Club. The course is set up as a par 72 with a yardage of 7,020.

    The event consists of three rounds, 36 holes played on Saturday and the final 18 holes taking place on Sunday. Ten teams will join Indiana and No. 32 Minnesota in the field, including Big Ten rivals Illinois, No. 31 Michigan State and No. 36 Wisconsin. In addition, No. 3 Lamar, Arkansas, Georgia Southern, Notre Dame, Princeton, San Diego and SMU will appear in the event.

    Tournament play begins Saturday with a shotgun first-round start at 8:30 a.m. CDT. The second 18 opens with a shotgun start following the completion of the opening round. On Sunday, the final round commences with an 8 a.m. start.

    This is the third straight season Minnesota has hosted the Gopher Invitational. Last season, the Hoosiers finished sixth at the event. Jorge Campillo led IU with a fifth-place showing. The Caceres, Spain, native carded a 220 (72-73-75). Two seasons ago, Indiana battled to a sixth-place finish in the 12-team field.

    Hoosier Lineup
    Indiana will send four players who participated in the season-opening Inverness Intercollegiate to the Gopher Invitational. Fifth-year senior Tad Sacheck (T30th), juniors Seth Brandon (T5th) and Jorge Campillo (T44th), and sophomore Alex Martin (T22nd) will be joined by junior Drew Allenspach. Allenspach owned a 76.03 scoring average last season.



    The Hoosiers finished in sixth place at Inverness, shooting an 881 (285-294-302). Brandon, Martin and Sacheck all earned slots in the top 30 in the 81-player field. Sacheck captured the best finish of his career, while Brandon earned his third top five.

    Loaded Field
    The Hoosiers kicked off the season facing one of the toughest fields they will see all season. Playing the always challenging Inverness Golf Club, Indiana took on five of the top-12 teams in the country and nine teams ranked in the top 35.

    IU did not back down and showed great things might be waiting ahead this season. The Hoosiers finished in sixth place in the 16-team field. Additionally, Indiana finished ahead of three of the top-10 programs in addition to No. 28 TCU.

    Brandon At His Best
    Facing an 81-player field featuring the top amateur golfers in the world, junior Seth Brandon put together three sterling rounds to tie for fifth place at Inverness. Brandon finished the event with a 1-over 214 (71-73-70). He collected the fifth top 10 of his career and his third top-five finish. Sizzling Sacheck

    Sizzling Sacheck
    Fifth-year senior Tad Sacheck worked hard during the summer as he has throughout his career. Although he only played in two tournaments his first four years in Bloomington, the Zionsville, Ind., native battled his way into the lineup at the Inverness Intercollegiate.

    He responded with a pair of 71s in the opening two rounds - the best scores of his career. Sacheck closed the tournament with a 224 total, besting his previous low of 235, and he earned his top placing with a share of 30th place.
