PARK RIDGE, Ill. -
The Big Ten Conference has announced that Indiana senior Brant Peaper has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week today (Sept. 19). Peaper was the medalist at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate last weekend, shooting a three-round score of 202 (-11) to beat the rest of the field by seven strokes.
"Brant certainly deserves this award after his play the past weekend at Wolf Run," Indiana head coach Mike Mayer said. "As I said after the tournament, it was one of the most impressive performances that I have ever seen and we look forward to what the rest of the year has in store for not only Brant but the entire team."
Peaper opened the Wolf Run Intercollegiate with a six-under par round of 65, matching his career best and tying the tournament course record in the process. In round two, he was once again on a roll but slipped up towards the end of the round but still finished with a one-under par round of 70. He then closed things out in style on Sunday, firing a four-under par round of 67 to run away from the field.
The 202 three-round total matches the tournament record as well.
He is the first Hoosier to win the award this season and the first since David Erdy claimed the weekly honor on March 21, 2011. It is the second weekly honor for Peaper, as he received the award on Feb. 23, 2011.
The Hoosiers continue tournament play this weekend at the Windon Memorial, hosted by Northwestern University, at the Skokie Country Club in Skokie, Ill. The tournament starts on Sunday with 36 holes and concludes on Monday with the final 18 holes.
