Bloomington, Ind. - IU men's golf standout Jeff Overton was named GolfWorld Magazine's Golfer of the Week in its Sept. 26 issue. The junior earned the award after winning the Northern Intercollegiate Individual Championship on Sept. 21.

Overton fired a final round even-par 71 and three-round score of six-under-par, holding off Xavier's Neal Grusczynski for the Northern title and his first collegiate championship. His performance helped the Hoosier team finish second at the event.

The All-America candidate followed that performance by capturing the individual title at the Hoosier Invitational by five shots at 10-under-par, setting a new Indiana individual 54-hole record with 203 (65-69-69). Overton's performance at the event saw him equal the 18-hole low single round school record (65) and saw him set a new 36-hole school scoring record (134).

Additionally, Overton helped lead the team to a 33-stroke victory at the event.

In two events this season, the Evansville, Ind., native has fired five rounds in the 60s in the six rounds he has played this season.

"I've been playing very well for the last four months," said Overton. "I have a lot of confidence in my game right now."

Overton and the Hoosiers return to the course Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6-7 at the 49ers Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.
