b>Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana men's golf team is ranked No. 5 in Golfstat's first weekly rankings. Golfstat is the official source for college golf scores and statistics.

The Hoosiers earned a spot among the top five after capturing the Hoosier Invitational Championship by 33 strokes Sept. 27-28. At the event, the Hoosiers broke the 54-hole scoring record by shooting 837 (273-283-281) in addition to setting a new 36-hole scoring record the previous day. The victory was the program's first win since 2000, when IU won the Legends Intercollegiate.

"We got a big win at the Hoosier Invitational in a big way," said head coach Mike Mayer. "This team needed to get through the door and win, and they did that. Our scores were unbelievable. It's not like the golf course was playing easy. In fact, it played very tough. The team did everything I could ask of them and more."

In its first outing, the Indiana finished second at the Northern Intercollegiate, placing behind Xavier. The Northern is deemed the "Big Ten Preview", and IU finished ahead of the six other Big Ten teams in the field.

The Hoosiers return to the course Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 6-7 at the 49ers Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.
