Overton Ties for 19th at Nationwide's Gila River Golf Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Former Indiana men's golf standout Jeff Overton tied for 19th place at the Gila River Golf Classic presented by Wild Horse Pass (Oct. 6-9) in Chandler, Ariz. Overton posted a 10-under-par 278 at the Whirlwind Golf Club (7,017 yards, par 72) for his first top-20 finish in three Nationwide Tour events.
The former two-time All-American carded a 5-under 67 in the fourth and final round en route to his best finish as a professional. Overton opened the tournament with a 70 before coming back with a 69 and 72 in the middle two rounds.
David McKenzie claimed the event title after shooting a 268 (64-67-67-70), holding off Jon Mills (71-66-63-69) by one stroke.
This was Overton's fourth tournament as a professional. The Evansville, Ind., native grabbed a share of 36th at the Albertsons Boise Open (Sept. 9-22), tied for 68th at his first Nationwide event, the Envirocare Utah Classic (Sept. 8-11), and participated in his first professional tournament, the PGA Tour's Buick Championship (Aug. 25-28).
