Hoosiers Share Lead at Firestone Invite

The Indiana University men's golf team posted a 12-under par 564 (291-273) to grab a share of the lead at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio. Junior David Erdy finished the day atop the individual leaderboard after firing a seven-under 65 in the second round, to go along with an opening round 70.
The Hoosiers share the 36-hole lead with Notre Dame, while St. Mary's (California) sits 11 shots back at 575. Eastern Michigan (578) and New Mexico State (579) round out the top five in the 13-team field.
Erdy has a two-shot lead over Niall Platt of Notre Dame, who finished with a seven-under 137 (65-72). Erdy's second round 65 tied a career-best for the Boonville, Ind. native, and included eight birdies and one bogey.
Erdy was not the only Hoosier to break par during the opening day at the Firestone Country Club-North Course. Freshman David Mills posted a two-under 142 (75-67), including a season-low 67 in the second round to tie for seventh. Sophomore Brant Peaper finished with a one-under 143 (74-69) to put him in a tie for 11th.
Junior Chase Wright was the fourth Hoosier to end the day among the top-20 individuals after posting a pair of even-par 72s (144), good for a tie for 17th.
Sophomore Kyle Perry, competing in his first tournament at Indiana, rounded out the lineup with a 156 (78-78). Freshman Hugo Menendez shot a 154 (79-75), while playing as an individual in his first collegiate event.
The Hoosiers will begin the final round at the North Course on Tuesday morning with Perry starting with a 10:00 a.m. ET tee-time, followed by Wright (10:09), Peaper (10:18), Mills (10:27), and Erdy (10:36). Menendez will start at 9:51. Live scoring will continue to be provided at www.golfstat.com.
