HOOSIERS FINISH IN THREE WAY TIE FOR SECOND; LEEN SHOOTS TOURNAMENT-LOW 70 TO MOVE UP
LOUISVILLE, Kent. - The IU men's golf team kept pace with much of the field at the final round of the Persimmon Ridge Intercollegiate. The only exception was the tournament medalist, Akron, who carded a 298 on the day, their second consecutive sub-300 round.
Indiana posted a final round of 303, giving them a two-round tournament total of 601, good enough for a tie for second with Kentucky and Michigan. The second place finish is the Hoosiers best of the season, easily surpassing their disappointing tie for 10th at the Northern Intercollegiate.
Individually, Chick Linski was unable to hold on to the top spot after carding a 79 in the final round. While Linski slipped into a tie for 14th, teammate Randy Leen equaled his season-low round and carded the low round of the tournament with a blistering 70 today. That score was good enough to move Leen into a four-way tie for fourth.
Senior Brent Landry, in his first tournament of the season, carded a respectable 76 today following a disastrous 89 yesterday.
The Hoosiers will travel to Palo Alto, California, for the Stanford Intercollegiate November 7-9, 1997.
